UV Sanitation System VS. Traditional Chlorine: What’s the Difference?

UV Sanitation System vs Traditional Chlorine

The biggest difference between UV sanitation systems and traditional chlorine is how they work. Traditional chlorine is a chemical that is added to the water in order to kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. The chlorine reacts with the microorganisms in the water, breaking down their cell walls and ultimately killing them.  UV sanitation systems, on the other hand, use ultraviolet light to kill pathogens. The UV light disrupts the DNA of the microorganisms, preventing them from reproducing and eventually killing them.

Which is More Effective?

Both methods are able to kill a wide variety of pathogens, but UV sanitation systems are generally considered to be more effective at killing some types of microorganisms, such as certain viruses and bacteria. Additionally, UV systems can also help to reduce the amount of chlorine needed to maintain a safe and clean swimming environment, which usually results in less skin and eye irritation for swimmers who are sensitive to chlorine.

What about Above Ground Pools?

Both UV sanitation systems and traditional chlorine methods will work in above ground pools. Pool owners just need to be aware of which UV systems are compatible with their above ground pool.

Another advantage of UV systems is that they are generally considered to be more effective at controlling algae growth.
